1018. (Samuel) Jephtha Meader (1818 – 1900)

(Samuel) Jephtha Meader, son of Joel Meader (1781-a.1850) [0123] and Rebecca Austin (  –  ), was born July 9, 1818, probably in Ferrisburg, VT, and died March 25, 1900 in Madrid, IA. He is listed in the 1850 Census as then in Washington Township, Henry County, OH. The Dent, Minnesota Meader family reports he moved from there to Mitchellville, IA in 1854, where he is listed in the 1856 Iowa Census. In the 1870 Census he was living with his daughter Emma with the family of A. J. Curtis in Polk County. He was buried in the United Brethren Cemetery, Madrid.

He married:
1)     Sarah Scribner probably about 1841 in OH. She was born in Moses Pike, OH in 1824 or 1825 and died in IA May 13, 1860.

2)     Widow Nancy Higby, probably about 1870 in IA. She was born March 19, 1837 in IA and died May 5, 1921. She was buried in Madrid. She brought from her previous marriage Minerva Higby, born about 1862 in IA, and John Higby (adopted), born about 1870. No children were listed from her marriage to (Samuel) Jephtha Meader.
